Harper / PMO: “The Inuit knew about the Franklin ships? Who knew?”

APTN demonstrates how low a priority First Nations relations are with the Harper government at the moment:

The Franklin expedition ship found by researchers on the Arctic seabed has a detailed and colourful history within Inuit oral tradition, yet the Inuit garnered only one 17-word sentence among the press releases and backgrounders released by the Prime Minister’s Office at the time after Tuesday’s announced discovery…the general public wouldn’t know about the key role Inuit oral history played in the selection of the search area by reading the information posted on the PMO’s website. There, the role of the Inuit in the Franklin saga is mentioned only in passing….The PMO did […]

Amateur Hour

I’m not sure this should surprise anyone, given the way the PMO has acted recently:

The Prime Minister’s Office orchestrated a protest earlier this month at which Conservative party interns mocked Liberal leader Justin Trudeau during an open-air news conference. It is the latest revelation about the lengths to which Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office — the nerve centre of the federal government — will go to meddle in partisan politics.

Not that I want to encourage this type of behaviour, but next time you try to stage an astro-turfed protest; try to dress and act the part, and don’t run away when reporters question who you are. That gives […]

Almost as surprising as Duffy being named to the Senate.. that Angelo Perchelli, formerly of the Toronto Star, is now going to be the new Director of Communications for the PMO. He’s perfectly suited to it, as he has plenty of practise from his Star column writing hack pieces for the Conservatives.

The best thing about this move? I don’t have to read his columns anymore, and the Star might find someone a bit more objective to fill the space.

Taking cues from the Harper PMO. The Guelph media notice as well.

Much has been made about Gloria’s Kovach’s inability to answer even a simple question such as the Stephen Truscott issue on compensation without referring it to the PMO press office – a sign that she is already taking direction from Harper’s PMO on what answers she should give to the media, which some of us in the progressive and Liberal blogosphere and from some voters of Guelph – judging by their reactions in the Guelph Mercury’s letters to the editor – say raises serious doubts about her ability to fight for Guelph issues in Ottawa under such a control-freak Prime Minister as Harper is.

Well, it isn’t just bloggers and […]
