Which Guelph Cons asked Doug Finley to oust Brent Barr?

There was a piece in the Toronto Star talking about Doug Finley and his role in the Conservative Party. In that piece it mentioned how no Conservative candidate can run without his permission, and it brought up 2 rather specific examples of this – Mark Warner being ousted in Toronto, and Brent Barr in Guelph. The part about Barr is very interesting, because it mentions that Ottawa didn’t act first to oust Barr – but according to 1 Barr supporter, it was some Guelph Conservatives who initiated the complaint:

In late 2007, Guelph Tories had problems with candidate Brent Barr, a business leader. Despite her nomination loss to Barr, party […]

Be careful what you wish for.

I found this today on Youtube from the recent Guelph all-candidates debates. It shows Liberal candidate Frank Valeriote giving an answer to what a candidate would do if in a hypothetical situation his/her leader called and said their particular party no longer existed, what party would they support?

The person who left this at Youtube – an obvious Conservative supporter, and with a name that makes me guess pretty well who it is – used it to assert that Frank was openly advocating the unification of the political left in Canada, and that if that was the case, he didn’t see the reason why there should be a Liberal […]

Vandalism done to Liberal supporters signs, properties, and cars in Guelph

There was a shocking display of election vandalism going on in Guelph last night. In this instance, homes with Liberal signs were targeted. Liberal supporters signs and houses were spray-painted with graffiti (it appears that at least 10 homes were vandalized), and at least 6 cars were keyed and their cars brake lines were tampered with and cut. This is more then just a prank – someone could have been killed if they hadn’t noticed and went driving off in their car.

Here are some pictures of the vandalism.

There was a joint news release from all 4 campaigns. It reads as follows:

“Ye reap what ye sow”

Christian Conservative, better known now as Andrew Prescott, riding president of the Guelph Conservative Party, has finally resurfaced a week or so after his cover was blown, with a blogpost bemoaning “gotcha politics”.

I find it rather ironic he’s moaning about gotcha politics when he engaged in it first. You might remember he got ticked off at a post done at Far and Wide and decided to blurt across the internet Steve V’s identity. Actually, let me change my first sentence: I find him extremely hypocritical.

Not only that; he’s missing the point entirely. First, he hid or tried to hide his association with the Guelph Conservative Party. Even on […]

KLRvu polling methodology update

Well, we’ve had quite a few of blogposts on the KLRvu pollsters and their polling numbers for Guelph throughout the blogosphere (including yours truly), and even one by David Akin looking at them. All this publicity no doubt thrills Allan Bruinooge, the head of the polling company, to no end.

I mentioned on Friday that I’d written the polling firm asking them of the 3396 households they polled in Guelph, how many of those refused to answer, hung up, etc. I received this response in email from Mr Bruinooge, and to be fair to him, I’ll quote his reply in full. He explains that the 3396 figure is the final […]

An encouraging poll result in Guelph, but the race is far from over.

Byelections normally don’t get polled, so there’s been some question as to how the races in these 3 byelections have been developing. I noted a column today from Thomas Walkom in the Star where he said Guelph was one of those ridings that theoretically, the Conservatives should be able to win because of its demographics and economic situation. So, this first poll I’ve seen on the Guelph byelection if accurate will be a bit of a downer for the Cons. in this riding. On the other hand, its very encouraging news for the Liberals and Frank Valeriote’s campaign in Guelph:

Frank Valeriote looks to become the next Member of Parliament […]

“Team Kovach”

Just as a followup to my last blogpost, look what Jeff Davidson of the blog “Where’d That Bug Go” found at Guelph Conservative candidate Gloria Kovach’s website. Take a look at the picture titled “Team Kovach”, and look who happens to be in that picture and part of Gloria’s team:

Why, it’s “average Guelph citizen” Barry Osmond! Do you still consider his website to be evidence of “grassroots opposition growing” to the Green Shift, Mr. Nicholls?

I think we can put that bit of spin to rest.
