Climate change sceptic sponsored study group: Global warming is real.

This is very amusing:

The Earth’s surface really is getting warmer, a new analysis by a US scientific group set up in the wake of the “Climategate” affair has concluded. The Berkeley Earth Project has used new methods and some new data, but finds the same warming trend seen by groups such as the UK Met Office and Nasa. The project received funds from sources that back organizations lobbying against action on climate change.

Where did those funds come from?

…Funding came from a number of sources, including charitable foundations maintained by the Koch brothers, the billionaire US industrialists, who have also donated large sums to organisations lobbying against acceptance of man-made global warming..The group’s work also examined claims from “sceptical” bloggers that temperature data from weather stations did not show a true global warming trend.

Any Canadian bloggers in that bunch, I wonder? 😉 And what exactly did the study find?

The Berkeley group found about 40,000 weather stations around the world whose output has been recorded and stored in digital form. It developed a new way of analysing the data to plot the global temperature trend over land since 1800. What came out was a graph remarkably similar to those produced by the world’s three most important and established groups, whose work had been decried as unreliable and shoddy in climate sceptic circles.

The whole article is worth a read. I’m eagerly awaiting the skeptics reaction to their own funded study. It’s hard to argue when your own study agrees with what other science has already concluded.

Oh please, the IPCC was exposed again for having no credibility whatsoever.
Don’t you gomers ever look at both sides of an issue?

There has been something of a degradation in news media, more noticeable in the more right-wing places, in that there has been the development of an idea that all issues have two sides that have equal validity. In a few cases, this is true, but these days, many people think that it happens all the time. As far as a propaganda tool, it actually seems to work, particularly with the credulous and (in the case of man-made climate change) the fearful. It’s called “teaching the controversy”.

It doesen’t help that it’s very easy now to output disinformation. You can find a web page to support any point of view you want, as you clearly have. And that is another problem. People have always had a tendency to believe things that they like, or wish were true, rather than facing reality. That’s just the way it is.

  • The word that comes to mind is, “Awkward!” 🙂
