The least surprising study results one could find.

I didn’t need a study to tell me this, since I can pretty much point these folks out, but at least we have a scientific study proving it:

Watching Fox News leaves viewers less informed and more prone to believing misinformation, according to a study conducted by the at the University of Maryland. While regular consumers of news were found to be more informed on issues surrounding the 2010 Senate elections, daily Fox viewers were significantly more likely to believe incorrect information on the economy, climate change and whether or not U.S. President Barack Obama was born in America…Researchers found that the more you watched Fox News the more misinformed you became; it didn’t matter whether you turned on the channel as a Republican or a Democrat.

…The report corroborates a previous Program on International Policy Attitudes study that showed Fox News viewers were more likely to be misinformed when it came to the conflict in Iraq

I’d like a study to see how that corroborates with Canadian Conservatives and their ability to say and believe stupid things.. and see if that’s gone up since the ‘Fox News Channel’ (and I say that with dripping sarcasm) was allowed onto Canadian TV programming

Zorpheous, I’d like to see that study if you’ve got any links. I don’t doubt you, on the contrary, as the words of the court jester are often the truest spoken.

@TofKW, There’s a pretty long Wikipedia article on The Daily Show which discusses a lot of related areas, but the closest thing to Z’s claim listed there is,

No joke: a comparison of substance in The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and broadcast network television coverage of the 2004 presidential election campaign
Journal of Broadcasting & Electronic Media, June, 2007 by Julia R. Fox, Glory Koloen, Volkan Sahin

      – but neither it nor Wiki cite it being more _reliable_ than the other networks: just comparably or even more _substantive_ in terms of the time & visuals spent on, in this case, the coverage of the ’04 election.

  • Remember the survey from 09 or 08 that ranked The Daily Show is more reliable news source than Fox Noise and other Cable Networks as well (if I remember it correctly)

Bet ya peoples IQ’s drop as well if they watch Glenn Beck

The purpose of propaganda is not to inform but to manipulate.
