Classless Conservatives

A young teenage boy just died of H1N1 in Toronto, and here we have Conservative MP’s (and apparently cabinet ministers – led apparently and not surprisingly by the classless John Baird) laughing and heckling Dr. Carloyn Bennett as she tried to ask a question about H1N1 and the vaccine as it related to pregnant women.

Bennett is right – there isnt anything funny about this – but if you listen to the hecklers, you’d think it was a laugh a minute. I’m sure the parents of Evan Frustaglio find this behaviour disgraceful.

I guess you’re not old enough to know that it’s not called the “Alliance/Reform/Con”. It’s called the Conservative Party of Canada, and Stephen Harper is the Prime Minister of Canada, not the King. I am quite sure I am older than the lot of you. I have been voting for the last 48 years so that might give you an idea how old I might I am a senior and seniors tend to vote Liberals and theirs a lot of us out there Frank. So put that in your pipe and smoke it. The Reforms became the Alliance party and the so called Conservatives picked out the old conservative name because they couldn’t get past the prairies as the Alliance Party. I think you should look this up before making accusations like you did to me. You are not funny and and they are not the progressive conservatives of old. Harper might be the PM but he sure likes to act like the king arguing with the GG. As for you, your most likely still in elementary school and probably about 12 years old. You want to hand out insults, you had better be prepared to take some back. And I still think that the Alliance/Reform/Cons in Parliament are not honorable or acting honorable. More like 5 year olds. They don’t deserve respect and they certainly don’t show any respect. I think they are rude and disgusting and that’s not a very good reason to call them Honorable.

    So Frank, grow up.

Not only the parents and family will find this heckling disgraceful but all Canadians should find the CONs MPS disgraceful

big Winnie, there is nothing honorable about the whole Alliance/Reform/Con government including King Stevei. There are a few in all parties that do not deserve that title either. But in all my years and I have had a few, I have never seen the likes of what is going on QP. I think guests should have a chance to ask questions and deserve answers because what I am seeing now is nothing but lies, heckling and nothing resembling what you would expect adults to act like. May as well be in a Kintergarten school with cranky, mis-behaved 4 and 5 year olds. Actually, I have been in a class and they are better behaved and smarter too.

I hope that info helps you the next time you try to have a political conversation with your classmates. 🙂

This is very sad indeed. What it shows is some one freaking out. What it DOES NOT SHOW is who is heckling or even if it is heckling. I see no shot of any particular minister , either conservative bloc ndp doing what Scott says they are doing. What I find totally classless is that this blogger has tried to turn this into …i dont even know what i want to say. are sinking lower than the liberals in the polls!!

I watch the HOC occasionally on CPAC, and to be honest, the posturing, acting, and shenanigans by all the members, including the CPC, is more then embarrassing, it’s retarded. I only hope that the whole HOC procedures and question period is merely a re-enactment of some long gone political traditions that are replayed for our amusement … much like the changing of the guards in front of the parliament. If the people we send to Ottawa are in reality like what we see on TV, then we, and I mean everyone, are the real morons because we are being duped into paying the high salaries and pensions of self-serving, egotistical, lazy-ass, manipulators. I hope that the real work of the country goes on in a normal, business-like, and professional fashion behind closed doors, and far out of sight of the cameras … I really hope that is the case.

CS: Why would I edit a video that I know would be readily available. Not only that, the transcripts can be read on Hansard. As for the tone, yes there was a little heckling from the opposition, however, that does not excuse the vehemence with which Baird and company attacked Dr. Bennett.

    • Frank

      @Big Winnie,

That’s called a “double-standard”, in case you were unsure of the correct term.

      • @Frank,
The flyer, mailed as a message from Liberal health critic Dr. Carolyn Bennett, features a picture of body bags in a lab and a sick aboriginal child.

Grand Chief Ron Evans of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs told a parliamentary committee the flyer was “very disturbing…it’s really troubling to our people.”

The pamphlet arrived on doorsteps after an investigation into an incident in which an official ordered 100 body bags for a First Nations community in Manitoba struggling with an H1N1 outbreak. The investigation concluded there was no ill will and the number was a miscalculation.

Evans said the fact the flyer was apparently sent after the incident was resolved suggested the affair is now being politicized.

Bennett apologized, saying her party’s intentions were honourable.

    Thank you “Roll Tide”.

I think that Canadians that watch QP will see that no political party is above childish behaviour there. As I suspected the video is rather one-sided. Not that I have been expecting better from Iggy and his supporters lately…

  • Roll Tide

You had to watch the whole QP.I remember seeing it last night on CPAC in context. The Liberals were not giving the Health Minister any respect. She kept repeating the flu shot was safe and recommended for everyone, and got heckled by Liberals. Dr Bennett continued to give the Health Minister the business regarding a pregnant woman not sure if she should get the shot. She needs the shot! Leona Aglukkaq stood up very well against Liberal harassment.
My wife got the shot last night, no problems.
    I am getting mine today.

  • CWTF

Scott, do you have a link to the complete exchange?
The except seems kind of disingenuous.

And “this isn’t funny” but I find the liberals just as cheap trying to make political hay with that little video that you posted (scary music and all that)….

I immediately thought of the bad old days, when violence against women was a big joke; “(Margaret Mitchel) broached the topic of violence against women in the House of Commons and was openly laughed at by male MPs.

As Mitchell tells it, “On May 12, I rose in the House to raise the urgent need for government action on a serious and widespread issue. ‘The parliamentary report on battered wives states that one in 10 Canadian husbands beat their wives regularly,’ I began. Before I could continue, an uproar of male shouts and laughter erupted, making it impossible for me to be heard.”

Today, we have questions asked about women’s health and get the same behavior in 2009 as was evidenced 1982. It makes me truly nauseas.

  • Big Winnie

I agree Scott, what Baird and the other “honourable” ministers did was dispicable.

    • @Big Winnie,

This latest publicity stunt by the Liberals earns 4 out of 5 doorknobs. Great video editing.

Do anyone expect Ottawa to have everyone from every medical body, country agree or to have the same opinion? Is this why the MI and the Liberals admire China so much? They are looking forward to controlling the news and opinions of its citizens and filtering those who don’t conform to their Liberal Canada?

The Liberal Party of Canada, promising to eliminate different opinions. Scary stuff!
