I pretend to be a Conservative MP handing out government money..

..and crediting it to my party instead. Here I am sending you all your very own partisan infrastructure stimulus funding novelty cheque:

Do you also want to be a Conservative MP for a day? Create your own novelty cheque.

By the way, on a more serious and related note, read the Jim Travers article this AM on this pork-barrelling the Conservatives are engaging in:

Almost daily reports that the ruling party is favouring ridings it holds now and those it hopes to win soon mask deeper problems. Conservatives either don’t know or won’t say precisely how all those taxpayer dollars are being spent.

Call it confusion or obfuscation, Ottawa’s lack of transparency contrasts sharply with Washington’s openness. Up here, not even the federal budget watchdog can follow the money. Down there, where the Barack Obama administration is shovelling a stunning $787 billion into a deep-hole economy, anyone with a laptop can reassure themselves public funds are buying more than political advantage.

What’s worrying now is what’s always worrying here. Instead of letting citizens, taxpayers and voters judge how much is being accomplished, the ruling party is dragging brush across its tracks as it brags about how much is being spent.

A quote from a well known partisan Liberal Carolyn Parrish, now a Mississauga Councilor.

“I understand the dramatic cries of outrage that must be flung at the government in power – often backed by somewhat scrambled statistics. But is infrastructure stimulus money being distributed unfairly? NOT!” She says that having first-hand knowledge of political “spin” and the “slings and arrows of the press,” she is a non-partisan now who can set the record straight. Ms. Parrish says that Mississauga is receiving a huge amount of dollars from various stimulus programs and it was city staff, not federal and provincial politicians, who decided which projects to fund. So there! “The feds and the province decided how much we’d get. Council decided where it would be spent.

The Liberals are now below Dion numbers. (Ipsos)
The Liberals are looking like whiners with their stimulus spin. Kinsella have to try a new issue.
Everyone knows everyone is getting money in different amounts from different programs depending on need. Its like running a family, trying to create fights will make you more unpopular.

If Harper isn’t trying to suck up to voters, why is the government doling out all this money to Toronto? If I recall correctly, all TO asked for was a replacement of a part of their transit fleet. Baird rejected that because the work would have been done in Thunder Bay.

@Big Winnie, Thats funny..I heard on 640am the other day that David Miller is pis*ed of with Harper because Toronto didnt recieve much federal stimulus money. I also heard the same thing on the Jeff McArthur show on am 980? Two different shows saying the same thing but you claim they are getting plenty?

I have to spin this around just to give another view. If the conservative government had been giving out larger cheques to liberal riding’s you would accuse them of trying to buy votes and that would be wrong in your and your liberal supporters eyes also.SO no matter what they cant win in the eyes of liberals and their supporters. Last night listening to a radio show they were talking about all of this and the one reporter who dug into this a bit said..all riding were to submit a shopping list of what they wanted in the form of federal stimulus dollars. Does this mean simply that liberal riding’s asked for less? This could very well be true or not. Could it also mean that conservative riding’s that had been ignored for years under the past liberal regime finally were able to get some much needed cash? Seems to me I remember hearing about all kinds of dollars getting tossed around to liberal riding’s during the Chretien regime.

To all of you who would ask me for the name of the reporter on which talk show..i just cant remember as in the middle of the night driving i really pay attention to traffic especially in he GTA>

  • Just $10 million? For all of us? Cheap bastard!
