Hillier to be replaced because he made poor Gordon O’Connor look inept?

I find it interesting that the Harper government is supposedly thinking of not extending General Hillier’s tenure as Chief of Defense Staff after his term expires in Feb 2008. Apparently, the government doesn’t like the fact he was somehow responsible for Gordon O’Connor’s downfall as Defense Minister.

Don’t get me wrong – I believe Hillier has politicized his position, and some of his statements were better left for politicians to make, not from the Chief of Defense – a supposedly partisan-neutral position. However, Gordon O’Connor was an inept Defense Minister – he didn’t need Hillier’s assistance to show that to everyone – and I believe Harper risks a further backlash against him and his government for sacking a popular guy like Hillier, merely so he can bring someone in that he likes. How Bush-like.

Even  Ret. General Mackenzie (very conservative man) thinks Harper’s foolish and he didn’t sound like he believed the problems were Hillier’s fault.

I’ll bet you Harper will pick a "YES MAN", just like his pal Georgie Bush does.
