Look at all those loonie lefties in Canada.

Looks like there are a lot of us:

The Canadian Press/Decima poll found that only 20 per cent of those surveyed favoured a “laissez-faire” approach to what has been described as the hollowing out of corporate Canada. A whopping 72 per cent said they want the government to do more to limit takeovers.

There also appears to be a lot of “Red Tories” out there too:

Among Conservative voters, 66 per cent said they would like to see government action on the issue.

Stevie won’t like to see that. Some other interesting stuff:

66 per cent of respondents said they believe that the number of Canadian firms being bought out by foreign interests has been increasing, and of those, 71 per cent considered the development a bad thing.

From this poll, there appears to be a willingness out there amongst the electorate to have some more stringent examinations take place of foreign takeovers of Canadian companies then what Investment Canada has been doing. Something to consider.

You are obsessed with polls, Scott.  Polls are meaningless unless they are attached to some sort of commitment on the part of the person answering the poll, like a vote.

I can probably take a poll where 98% of the public thinks children should get free lollipops, but that doesn't mean it's good public policy.

  • Neil: Whether that's the case or not, the poll shows that Canadians dont like the fact that foreign takeovers appear to be increasing – it didnt say that they think there are more Canadian companies taking over foreign ones then vice versa – a big difference.

  • Well Aaron.. maybe I could just call him "Steve" like Dubya does. And of course, I’m sure you’ve gone to all those Conservative sites and equally roundly condemned those who call the Leader of The Loyal Opposition “Citoyen Dion”, right? 🙄

Come back and comment when you have something more productive to say, like on the actual poll #’s or the story itself. You apparently disliked the reality of that poll so much you had to result to ad hominem attacks again (as per usual).

  • Stevie? These little pet names you constantly use to refer to the prime minister of Canada don't accomplish anything other than making you look like a child.

  • What you say may be very true but my information suggests that Canadian companies are taking over more foreign companies that vice versa.
