The last social taboo broken (hopefully).

I’d like to congratulate Scott Brison for helping to end as the CBC piece says “one of the last social taboos in politics”. I also join Brison in his sentiment:

“I’m looking forward to the day when the idea of a gay or lesbian politician getting married is not a story at all,”

  • How about the taboo of multiple wives, oops spouses? The first MP to have two is on the horizon.  Oh, and btw Scott would have hated it if his event had been a non-story ( despite what he says)

  • Greg Goss

It will never be "not a story".  But in this idealized fantasy world, the media will make a big issue about the clothes and the hall chosen and the fact that someone's half-brother was pointedly not invited.  Celebrity weddings are ALWAYS a story.  Especially if he insists on wearing THAT outfit.

  • I guess that's why I didn't post about about Brison's wedding, I saw the news article and thought, yeah, whatever. It feels kind of nice actually.

  • Did you see this MMP campaign:

"'Missing referendum': ACT NOW on under-reporting"

Apparently the Globe is not too please with people pointing out their lack of coverage of MMP. I'm glad, they've done a poor job on this issue.

  • "…if there ARE social taboos that if eliminated would make us a more progressive and tolerant and open society, you're right.. I probably will be calling for it…"

    Like what?

  • Actually, Aaron..  a) I'm quoting what the CBC said, and b) it said the last social taboo in politics, not necessarily in society in general.

And.. if there ARE social taboos that if eliminated would make us a more progressive and tolerant and open society, you're right.. I probably will be calling for it.. and I'll also be pretty certain the folks over at The Politic will be moaning about how this is the end of society as we know it.. etc etc.

  • Don't be so short-sighted, Scott. There are lots and lots of social taboos that you will be calling to be broken over the coming years.
