The best before date on this branding label has long expired.

Steve is exasperated at the continued insistence of the Conservatives to calling themselves “Canada’s New Government”, but I’m just amused. I mean, its only been 18 months since they won the election; they’re probably doing this to ensure all those people who have been in comas the past 19 months who come out of them will be aware there’s a “new” government in town. That’s very courteous and egalitarian of them if you ask me.

Even though they’re starting to get openly mocked over it, Harper’s communications team apparently must feel this is a winning brand name for them among the voters. Then again, this is also the bunch that decided that putting a Conservative Party logo on Pierre Bourque’s Nascar vehicle would also be a great idea.

I think we should hold a contest or start a pool when we think Harper and his PR bunch will finally drop the “new government” label. Myself, I think if their government lasts to the 2 year mark, that’s when they quietly drop the label.

Regardless of when they drop it, they’re probably as we speak hard at work trying to come up with a new label for the date they decide they’re no longer new… because more then any other Canadian government, Deceivin’ Stephen and his crew are all about PR and image and labels – anything to secure that obsessed over majority government.

Hi Olaf: as you've probably read.. I was having email issues with my server. Please try resending them  as the email should now work (if it doesnt, let me know).

Also… as you'll notice.. I'm a tad intermittent online til the 23rd… so I may not be able to participate as much as I would like in your debate thing. Just so you know.

  • Scott,

Sorry, this is off topic, but I've been trying to send you an email about the debate thing with the list of potential topics for you to choose from, and it keeps on getting sent back to me by the postmaster.  If you're still interested in at least seeing the potential topics, please shoot us an email at [email protected] when you get a chance, and we'll get them out to you.  Thanks.

  • I dunno… if the retention of the “New Government” induces the opposition to spending time complaining about that rather than the policy actions of the Conservative Government, then it is doing its job.

  • "…more then any other Canadian government, Deceivin’ Stephen and his crew are all about PR and image and labels…"

    Yeah. Cough *Paul Martin* Cough…

  • I do not think that the new should be there, anymore, but if they want to get around it, by saying Neo -Conservative Government, that is fine with me.

    Scott,
Sorry to post this here, but I keep getting an email error everytime I try to send it to you via email.√?¬† Thought you might find it interesting.√?¬† (love your blog, btw):

Another cautionary tale from “down south” of what happens when the message is always political and defies reason.
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070710/hl_nm/bush_surgeongeneral_dc

These are always much more compelling when the tales come directly√?¬†from the now-repentent actors. √?¬†Makes you wonder what is the purpose√?¬†of appointing a professional, educated individual when the scripting√?¬†is all done back-stage.

Who do you think will be the ones to step forward down the road (i.e.√?¬†after the damage is done) if Harper were ever to get his majority?

    Joseph

I saw the potential in this on day one and have believed since, this is an albatross round a most deserving neck and one I will continue to remind 'them' of at every opportunity.
