Most partisan government ever in Canadian history.

I don’t see how anyone could challenge that label of Canada’s once-new Conservative government. This time, the NDP has gotten a taste of what the CPC has been throwing Dion’s way since he became leader. After Layton and the NDP (amongst others) criticized the bad optics of the Conservatives being a sponsor in a racing circuit that is the only one that uses leaded fuel still and hasn’t embraced “clean” racing alternative fuels yet, the Conservatives turned their attack dogs on the NDP, releasing this statement:

Ryan Sparrow, a spokesman for the Conservative party, said New Democrats will have to answer to automotive workers for their criticism of motor sports.Theyre casting doubt on the whole sport, said Sparrow.

So now the Tories are trying to use this as a wedge issue against the NDP, after it was pointed out how much leaded fuel and GHG these things emit. They can’t help but turn EVERYTHING into a wedge issue. The NDP are against the automobile!

A wedge issue, Scott?  A wedgie maybe but as for the  Conservative "spokesman", I think Jacks response should be on the order, "Ryan, you're a moron.  If you believe auto workers will buy into to that one you are as stupid as the folks leading your party and, you can kiss my ass!  And while you're down there?  Make a little room for Steve, cause he can kiss my ass, too."

Can the NDP still call themselves the New Democratic Party after 46 years?… 🙂

  • Actually.. it won't be til 2008.. but your point is taken.

  • Whooee! An article I read yesterday said that NASCAR was going unleaded for the first time in this 2007 season. That don't let 'em off the hook. They resisted reform and got special permission to use leaded fuel well beyond the time when it was conclusively proven to be damaging to humans.

The main effect of lead on the human body is to attack brain cells. Think of the lead concentrations in those racetracks for all those years. Great family fun. Take the kids out for a dose of lead poisoning so they can end up as stoopid as their parents.

As far as tryin' to alienate the autoworkers from the NDP, I thought Buzz done that already.

There's a golden opportunity here for the opposition to sponsor non-polluting recreational activities. I just wrote to the gal I adore, Lizzie May, and suggested a Rideau Canoe Race. It don't get more Canadian than canoeing. I'd like to see some teams from the HoC, press corps, party backrooms, party leaders, Mike Duffy vs. Don Newman… fun, free, wholesome, non-poluting, low entry cost. I got the YouTube ad already dreamed up.
