Some very good environmental news from south of the 49th parallel

In a decision which shows despite Bush’s efforts there are still progressive thinkers on it, the US Supreme Court has overruled Bush and the EPA on global warming and says it must act:

The Supreme Court ordered the federal government on Monday to take a fresh look at regulating carbon dioxide emissions from cars, a rebuke to Bush administration policy on global warming. In a 5-4 decision, the court said the Clean Air Act gives the Environmental Protection Agency the authority to regulate the emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from cars. Greenhouse gases are air pollutants under the landmark environmental law, Justice John Paul Stevens said in his majority opinion.

It should be interesting to see how Bush reacts, since he’s famous for doing “signing statements” to Congressional Laws which he asserts allows him to interpret the laws as he sees fit. Supreme Court rulings however cant be modified or usurped with signing statements.
