Our cheapshot Prime Minister

Well.. I’d thought I’d seen and heard it all coming from this guy and this party, but he’s gone even below my already low expectations.

liberal Catnip details today how when Dion asked Harper again about stacking the judicial bench full of Tory partisans, Harper decided to pull out a Vancouver Sun article which talked about a Liberal MP’s father-in-law being on a list of people that the RCMP would like to question over the Air India affair. According to Catnip, his wording went like this:

Mr Speaker, obviously the Liberal party opposes the change we’ve made which is to give the police a voice in this process. I’m not surprised, Mr Speaker, given what I’m reading in the Vancouver Sun today when I read this is how the Liberal party makes decisions.”The Vancouver Sun has learned that the father-in-law of the member of parliament for Mississauga-Brampton…”

At this point, an uproar ensued in the House and Harper was shouted down before he could finish his drive-by-smear of both the Liberal MP and the Liberals in general. When he was asked later to apologize for this, he refused and had the gall to suggest that a) the Liberals should be apologizing for not supporting the anti-terror legislation, and b) he didnt need to apologize because he didnt say anything due to him being shouted down.

Disgusting.. Harper was trying to obviously link this to why the Liberals wont support the controversial provisions in the anti-terror legislation due to be sun-setted out if not renewed.. and he brings this up during a judicial appointment question. This is classic GOP/Republican smear and fear stuff.

The sooner we get this guy and his party out of power, the better.

EDIT: The CTV link showing the disgraceful display of the PM and the Liberals rightly shouting him down.

EDIT 2: The CTV followup with Goodale charging the PM’s accusation with being character assassination and an interview with Goodale

    Source?

If true, this will be genuinely funny. Policy formulation by spite? Good move, Liberals.

Libs won’t get their nomination papers signed if they defy Dion

It was on Duffy yet Mr. Turner, who was in the caucus meeting today, says it’s bullshit. Where did Duffy hear it? In a newspaper article. I normally expect better from him. Disappointing choice of information to spew to the public.

I thank Harper for that.. there at least is 1 bit of a silver lining out of this slur he produced… because of his desire to try and take political advantage of a situation.. he united the caucus behind Dion and reminded them he’s the adversary.

Dion is obviously a believer in civil rights.. and I applaud him for that.

I hope PMSH tries to ask the question again tomorrow. Aren’t you Libs even a bit curious what he was going to ask?

It’s a 3 line wiped vote, Libs won’t get their nomination papers signed if they defy Dion 1) don’t show up 2)vote with the government.
    Yiks!

Cons negotitated a 9 month extension of the ATA (re:Air India) with lower level Libs, but Dion said NO DEAL. Why?
What is he trying to hide?

    (it’s all on todays Duffy)

  • Well you should know, since you’re an expert at doing it on here on a regular basis.

    Flaming is boring, too.

    :em19:

Harper is not a man – he’s weak. If he was a man he wouldn’t have to bully, he wouldn’t have to try to destroy someone. Fine exampe this vile man is for kids.

Did it occur to anyone in the Conservative world that this Air India tragedy happened 21 years ago and Bain would have only been about 8 years old. It also happened under Mulroney’s watch – in fact early in his tenure as PM. The RCMP and CSIS apparently knew about the terrorist cell 3 months before the tragedy which means that Mulroney would have known – he would have been briefed I would think.

Now – why didn’t Mulroney deal with it while facts, memories and evidence were fresh. Is it Mulroney that Harper’s trying to protect with blacked out documents? Just curious.

  • Boring is better then pathetic.. which is what you are, Aaron.

I suggest going back to your Politic cesspool and staying there.

  • Mike, you’re boring.

  • Uhm Aaron, get your head out of your ass. The Air India Inquiry is threatened not because of the Liberals stance on draconian anti-terror legislation, but because the RCMP, CSIS, Foreign Affairs – in other words the Government – refused to release the evidence Justice John Major is asking for.

    So STFU.

But why let a little thing like facts get in the way of your man-crush on Dear Leader. Dear god, he could have killed a kitten live on camera, and you’d be here blaming on the Liberals for not supporting cruelty to animals legislation.

Where is that “personal responsibility” I keep hearing you Conservatives are into? How about showing some spine and admitting when Harper has fucked up?

Even better, how about Steve-o try to say that OUTSIDE the House and see what happens…

Centre, thanks for the voice of reason.

What I find particularly galling, is that Harper, the PM of this country, accepts that it is okay to smear some Canadians, when he is supposed to represent ALL of us.

He’s not a PM, IMO. He’s the epitomy of a politician, always ready to take swipes at his opposition, without regard for the citizens of this country, that he is sworn to represent.

Aaron, Harper, nor anyone in his caucus raised one word about the enquiry, until the RCMP made their statement. If this is supposed to be the clincher on the vote, the con’s had no knowledge of it.

BTW people, let’s not ignore the obvious. The question posed to the PM was about the judiciary. In his usual fashion, he didn’t even attempt to answer, he simply tried to deflect and this time, he started with slime.

Stephen Harper revealed, only a matter of time.

  • Liberals now agree that drive by smears must be shouted down…

If only we can get them to agree on fiscal imbalance…

  • “However, with today’s comments, Harper has effectively killed any chance of making breakthroughs in South Asian communities.”

That’s kind of funny, since it was the South Asian community that wanted the Air India inquiry and the Liberal Party that now wants to kill it.

Harper’s comment today reminded me of something Chretien would have done, kick ’em while they’re down. Of course, Chretien won alot of elections, so I’m not too dismayed by that thought.

Im a Sikh and before today’s comments, myself and many others in my community were willing to listen to Harper and the Conservative message. Harper has worked around the clock to lobby our community to consider voting for the CPC (With introducing a formal process for the federal government to recognize and acknowledge the Komagata Maru incident being the biggest and most popular action)

However, with today’s comments, Harper has effectively killed any chance of making breakthroughs in South Asian communities. There is no way in hell I will consider voting for him and I expect this shameful action to spread like wildfire, in all ethnic communities, across all of Canada.

    Disgusting.

  • Amazing. I’ve realized for a long time that they’re low but tthis resets the ‘limbo bar’ just fractionally above ground. Harper’s unfit to lead this country. Actually he’s even unfit to lead a group of 2nd graders. I think wee Stevie (aka Baby Dubya) needs a little, no, make that a long, time-out in the corner.

I can’t wait to throw these bums back out onto the street.

The problem JB is, in Harper’s case the question is rhetorical.

I’m most astonished that the con’s are actually defending their position and in their typical upside down world, turning it on Dion.

It’s no secret I can’t stand Harper, but he went lower than even I expected today. He knew it too, if you watch his face. He came back with bravado, (until he became a coward and had Van Loan do his bidding), but his smirk was missing.

  • Whooee! Yer right as rain, ScottyMan. Disgustin’ is the word fer it. Back ’round 1950-sumpin’ the Merkans had this here nutjob McCarthy runnin’ a red-scare commie witch hunt. Finally, he got his yap shut when somebuddy asked “Have you no decency?” Somebuddy better ask Harpoon the selfsame question.
