The 22 Days of Harper’s Anti-Environment/Anti Kyoto quotes – Day 3

Yes, it’s Day 3 of 22 Days of Harper’s Anti-Environment/Anti-Kyoto quotes.

We’re STILL on this Toronto Star interview from September of 2002. Amazing how many lovely tidbits come out of this 1 interview!

“Kyoto does virtually nothing to deal with pollution and to deal
with the quality of the air that we breathe. Let’s forget about this
unworkable treaty.. Kyoto’s never going to be passed.”
(Stephen Harper, Toronto Star, September 5, 2002)

Interesting quote Steve, but a red herring as much then as it is now. Air pollution isnt what Kyoto was trying to deal with, and never was meant to deal with it. Oh, and Kyoto DID pass.. showing how much foresight Stevie had on that issue.

Day 4 coming up tomorrow!! 😉

    a. The science of climate change was NOT well understood in 2002… only last year did the heads of the G8 academies of science ubiquitously agree and only two weeks ago did the IPCC put the hammer in the coffin.

    b. Stephen Harper at the time was head of the Opposition. I won’t paste the definition of opposition… but when you have a majority government a voice of dissension must be heard to give Canadians a holistic view.

Also – isn’t anybody concerned on the NDPs ties to the auto union and the layoffs to Ford, GM, Dodge, etc? Don’t you think that Jack Layton’s position on climate change is starting to get compromised…
